Notes:

Tim Hills: The tree has been described as a ‘gnarled and ancient tree, believed to be older than the building which is now The Royal Yew Inn’ (www.haighs.com/ryew.htm). The photographs taken in 2021 show the gnarled bole, caused by the removal of branches that would otherwise interfere with the Inn or the road. For the moment there is no way of knowing just how old this yew is, but it appears more likely to date from the time of the present building than to be rooted in the 13th century.
