Girth height: at 90cm

Tree sex: female

Date of visit: 14-Jan-12

Source of earliest mention: 1938: The King's England - Arthur Mee

Notes:

January 2012 – Tim Hills: This yew exhibits interesting features. Firstly it has undoubtedly been larger girthed and is classified as Ancient (5/7m) to reflect its former size.
Attached to the edge of the present tree are a large number of stems which initially grew internally and are now seen on the outside of the tree. A small section of the old trunk which would have once enclosed them can still be seen (highlighted in photo 2), but this will eventually decay. The second feature is a considerable twisting of the trunk just below the outpouring of branches. Ivy should be dealt with before it becomes a problem as additional weight in the branches.
