Dorstone - churchyard

Tree ID: 1350

Yews recorded: Ancient 4m-5m

Tree girth: 462cm

Girth height: near ground

Tree sex: unspecified

Date of visit: 10-May-02

Source of earliest mention: Tree Register data base

Notes:

May 2002 – Tim Hills: The yew grows SE of church. Only 1′ of its bole was visible before an outpouring of twiggy growth at right angles. This may account for its being recorded in the past as a much larger tree, since girth at a height of 5′ would be very large indeed. Large quantities of ivy had been cut through at its base.
May 2015 – Paul Wood: The yew grows 30 metres SE of the porch. It is currently in conflict with a chest tomb on its north side but winning the battle. The tree is looking very strong and robust but maintains a twiggy covering interspersed with ivy on it lower trunk. My initial ground level measurement was 16′ 2” (493cm), but it seemed that recently the ground level has been raised by at least 8” from the dumping of soil. Measuring 6” down into this soil girth was 15′ 2” (462cm).
