Notes:

In 1841 the minister of Dunscore, shire of Dumfries, tells us : ‘The old burying-place is not tilled. Upon one corner of it grew a large yew-tree, which was consumed in the heart. Three men have stood in it at once ; but it was overturned by the wind this season’.
