Notes:

January 2008 – Tim Hills: Two female yews still grow here, each girthing between 10′ and 11′. The loss is of a tree described in a publication of 1805 as a ‘prodigious large yew-tree, under which 1500 men can stand: its circuit 24 feet’.
In Hutchins History of Dorset, first edition 1774, the following was noted: ’24ft girth yew with 20 yrd crown spread felled in 1760 yielded 10 waggon loads of wood’.
