Eccles Green

Tree ID: 4842

Yews recorded: Notable

Tree girth: 389cm

Girth height: at 60cm

Tree sex: unspecified

Date of visit: 16-Feb-16

Source of earliest mention: 2016: Paul Wood

Notes:

The yew has a short bole of just under five feet, hidden behind much twiggy growth. The tree produces three leader branches and many younger branches are visible. These smaller branches are not able to fully develop because of the tree’s proximity to a busy road. The tree is also regularly cut on the garden side and its south side where it is only a few feet from a 16th/17th century barn. I measured with difficulty at 2′ above the garden side of the tree at what looked its narrowest point and recorded a girth of 12′ 9” (3.89m). The tree appeared in good health with no visible holes or rot. Many more yews with girths above 11′ were noted in this hamlet.
