Notes:1993: A letter was sent to the Conservation Foundation’s Yew Tree Campaign describing this yew and its plight. “This tree is 8.5 metres in girth. On the 1:25,000 map a well is shown on the site but that has been destroyed by recent drainage and ‘improvements’. Sadly the farmer who owns it would like to get rid of it because of the risk of poisoning his livestock and at the moment the tree looks sick indeed because of drainage piles of rocks against it and even bonfires burnt beneath its branches. Despite a lot of dead branches it still exhibits some new growth and has a crop of berries at the moment. If the farmer could be encouraged to view his yew in a different light it would be well worth it.”
c1994: A girth of 24′ (732cm) was recorded in Meredith’s gazetteer in The Sacred Yew.
1998 – Tim Hills: Tree in a sorry state, the ground strewn with heavy boulders, the bole stripped of bark, yet with sufficient new growth to suggest that recovery is possible.
2022 – Brian Palmer recorded a girth of 7.23m (23′ 9”) at 1m. His photos show that alongside all of the dead branches there is still life in the tree.
