Forest of Dean - Blakeneyhill Wood North

Branches which would have arched over the path have been systematically removed, some so long ago that new wood laid down almost covers the wounds. A gap in the bole reveals inner decay and what seemed like internal growth. The tree was laden with gall, its foliage was thin and there was much adventitious growth on the bole. Girth of 15′ 9” (480cm) was recorded between the ground and 18” (sloping ground). Young yews grew nearby.
