Notes:1781 – Gentleman’s Magazine v51: “But the finest yews I ever saw are at Gofworth in Cheshire. In the churchyard there are three, the largest of which, against the south door, has a seat of stone round it eight or nine inches broad, the circumference of which is fifteen yards. They are all tall trees, cut in a regular conic form, trimmed out of the reach of the highest horse.”
