This was possibly one of England’s larger yews; Loudon recorded 37′ girth in 1836 and Lowe a girth of 47′ in 1897. Prebendary J. Sweetman informed Swanton in October 1954, that ‘there is no yew tree in Hampstead Marshall Churchyard or its vicinity, and I can neither see signs of stumps or learn from old residents that there ever was any’.
