September 2005 – Tim Hills: Farey described a ‘large yew’ here in 1813. Either (1) the 13′ yew seen today is a fragment of the tree described 200 years ago (2) the original tree is a ‘lost yew’ (3) ‘large’ might have referred to height or spread of branches rather than the tree’s girth.
