Notes:

In Lees’ account he described that ‘a botanical curiosity existed near Heightington, being a fine young yew-tree, that having originally vegetated as a seedling on a pollard oak, had extended its roots to the ground, and so filled up the hollow cavity of its foster mother. Thus for many years the two trees grew in close proximity, the yew, however, gradually breaking away from, and disrnpturing the yielding bark of the oak, until a fierce hurricane of wind, in 1845, entirely prostrated the yew’.
