Notes:

The advert stated that the tree ‘may be between 750 and 1000 years old’. Since the house is about 300 years old the tree is likely to be the same age. It had a girth of 9′ 10” at 6”/9” and 8′ 7” at 3′ and is a solid tree with a fluted trunk. It graces the corner of a formal garden, with its lateral branches spreading over summer house and the wall into an adjacent garden. Most of its growth is on upright branches, starting from a height of about 10′. One substantial branch, which would have grown in the direction of the house, had been removed or broken. In a developing cavity could be seen small internal roots. Foliage was thick and the tree appeared very healthy.
