Extract from a letter to David Bellamy sent by V.E.Bowden in 1988: ‘The yew is merely a fifteen foot stump, the tree having died in the drought of 1921. It is now covered in ivy and makes a feature in the churchyard’. The tree is also described as hollow, the stump measuring approximately 24′ at 3′, and even larger at 4′.
A younger yew was also recorded growing 20′ west of the west door. Girth of this tree was given as 9′ 1” at 3′ and 9′ 0” at 4′ (in 1988).
