Notes:

Pigot’s directory described ‘a large yew tree, measuring in girth twenty feet nine inches; and its antiquity is stated to be traced to the remote period of 800 years back’. In The Sacred Yew it is recorded as no longer there, a fact recently confirmed by Jim MacDonald of Kirklees MC who reports 5 yews in Kirkheaton churchyard, none of which could be described as ancient or venerable.
