Tree ID: 5354
Yews recorded: Ancient 4m-5m
Tree girth: 442cm
Girth height: at 100cm
Tree sex: unspecified
Date of visit: 15-Jul-18
Source of earliest mention: 1867: Arcisse du CaumontNotes:
In the 1867 Statistique monumental de Calvados vol 5 by M de Caumont, an entry on p57 describes the yew in the cemetery as measuring ‘about 8 feet of circumference in the middle’. This is about 2.60 m.
In 2018 I measured at 3 heights above the pile of roots, itself about 60 cm above the ground. The following were recorded: 4.83m at 30cm; 4.42m at 100cm and 4.40m just below the bulging, at 120cm. The trunk is very fluted and the bark very flaky. Marks could be seen where ivy has been removed. Overall appearance is of a tall and narrow tree.
