Notes:Of the four yews that grow here, the two larger are recorded.
The first yew had a girth of 11′ 2” (340cm) at 2′ 6”. It grows west of the porch. The yew to the east, seen in the 2nd photo, had a girth of 10′ 8” (325cm) at 3′. An embedded nail marked these heights. Each of the trees appear to be taking on a horse shoe shape, with traces of dead wood on the east side of both trees. Beneath the east tree is an obelisk in memorial to a Maori chief, George King Hipango, who died of tuberculosis in 1871 at the vicarage whilst training to be a Christian missionary. He was only nineteen.
