Lingen

In the churchyard is this seemingly unremarkable yew, multi-stemmed from ground level. However it is growing on a broad but very distinct mound in an otherwise flat churchyard and it occurred to me the mound might represent the location of the remains of a much older and much larger tree, now presumably more or less decayed and returned to the soil. This kind of raised area around a tree is what I suspect may have prompted the yew at St. Dogmaels to have been walled-in, cutting it back to improve access to the nearby church.
