Notes:

This tree has suffered major damage in the past, losing half of its trunk on the side facing the road. This seems to have been caused by a combination of hollowing and gravity. Today there are short branches facing the road, while the side of the tree over the field had a full canopy on thick limbs. This seems to have happened in the recent past, though the hollow part of the tree is already filling with new growth. This very fluted tree could be measured, but the fence, steep bank and two feet of mud by the stream at the foot of the tree would require three people to carry it out accurately. I estimated its girth between 15′ and 18′.
