Tree ID: 958

Yews recorded: Ancient 4m-5m

Tree girth: 409cm

Girth height: at 5cm

Tree sex: female

Date of visit: 21-Oct-99

Source of earliest mention: No data

Notes:

A female yew grows between the churchyard entrance and the church. I measured it between the ground and 6” and recorded a girth of 13′ 5” (409cm). Higher measurements would have been exaggerated by new branch development. A report, found originally on http://homepage.ntlworld.com/nigel.nicholson/gn/page%2040.htm says that somebody has ‘recently chopped down the yew trees in the graveyard, presumably on the grounds that they were too big’. I do not know whether these were Taxus baccata L. or Irish Yews.
