Notes:

In 1997 the Clwyd/Powys Archaeological Trust noted ‘6 mature but not ancient yews randomly placed S of the church’. When I visited in 2004 my interest was only in recording the largest and oldest yews. I noted one tree that might fit that category, with a large section of stump suggesting it could have once been of huge dimensions. It was, however, covered in ivy and difficult to assess and I was not convinced.
Recent discovery of Reg Wheeler’s notes show no fewer than seven yews, with girths of 630cm, 535cm, 450cm, 418cm, 400cm, 348cm and 320cm. It is possible there are one or two ancients among these.
