Tree ID: 93
Yews recorded: Ancient 5m-7m
Tree girth: 602cm
Girth height: at 15cm
Tree sex: male
Date of visit: 15-Mar-98
Source of earliest mention: 1880: Paper presented to Cardiff Nat.Soc. by T.H. Thomas
Notes:December 1986 J.Daryll Evans recorded 700cm (just over 22′ 11”) at 1m.
March 1998 – Tim Hills: The untypical nature of this yew has been noted since 1880. It retains its considerable girth of 22′ 5” (683cm) at 4′ for a height of about 15′.
March 2017 – Peter Norton: The yew grows opposite the southeast corner of the church. It is male and quite bulbous in nature due to a low side branch. The minimum girth recorded was 19′ 9” (602cm) at approximately 6” from the ground, where several embedded nails were found. Hollowing can be seen in a section of missing bole on the east side of the tree.
October 2021 – Tim Hills: I recorded 23′ 6” (716cm) at 1m, but new twiggy growth and lost sections of trunk mean it cannot readily be compared with the measurement of 1986. I recorded 21′ 1½” (614cm) at the height of the nails.
