Notes:

It can be seen quite clearly on google earth that this place is still ’embosomed, embowered in trees -hedge trees, fruit trees, flowering shrubs- and above all, till recent cuttings a solemn ank of huge ancient yews (traditionally associated with churchyards), hiding the house completely from the field below. The stump of another great yew is to be seen in the field, which is said to be protected by a legal stipulation from ever being ploughed up. A farmer who violated the agreement was turned out. The story supports the association with an old burial-ground’.
