Source of earliest mention: 2011: Ancient Tree Hunt

Notes:

April 2011 – Andy Gordon: Ancient Tree Hunt 111301, as seen in the photographs. Described as ‘fluted stems which diverge from 2m’.
Girth shown in 2011.
April 2018 – Dougald Purce: The tree grows at approximately 300m on a steep north facing slope, on shallow poor soils with full exposure to the wind, and in an area prone to be dry in the summer. This part of the valley is known as Park Coppice so the tree may have been in woodland before the hills were grazed by sheep. It is in remarkably good condition but the soil around it is quite eroded, possibly from decades of sheep and wild horses sheltering under it. It is a bit hollow but structurally ok.
