July 2002 – Tim Hills: In 1979 half of the tree fell in a storm. Whether the weight of the concrete partially filling its hollow centre was a contributory factor will remain unknown. The argument to leave what remained of the tree was won and it has recovered. From a height of about 10′ there is an outpouring of branches. Girth of 14′ 7” (444.5cm) was recorded at the ground, or at 2′ where the land slopes away.
2022 – Earlier Fielding: Was surprised to find that presumably the prop has sometime recently failed and the limb that it held fallen off.
