Morden Hall Park

Tree ID: 2556

Yews recorded: Ancient 4m-5m

Tree girth: 442cm

Girth height: No data

Tree sex: male

Date of visit: 8-Jul-07

Source of earliest mention: 1957: Maynard Greville

Notes:

An astonishing and unexpected find. Such is the prolific nature of its layering that the mixture of roots and low branches make it almost impossible to reach the tree’s trunk. It is best seen by crossing the stream and walking through the rose garden. Next to the tree the stream is about 4m wide. A root crosses this, half submerged, and grows as a new tree on the other bank. Several new trees grow on this side, though the link to the parent tree has been severed in all but the example shown.
