September 2016 – Paul Wood: The larger of More’s two yews might easily go unnoticed. Its bole was plastered in ivy, which will have accounted for a few of the inches in a girth of 12′ 7” (384cm) at 3′, the tree’s narrowest point. Removal of some ivy revealed this to be a horse shoe shaped hollow yew, the hollow being on the north side of the tree. The tree takes up little room, having been regularly cut back both to allow access along the path to the church and to prevent interfering with telephone wires. An iron post in the bole at a height of about 10′ was a mystery.
