Source of earliest mention: 1867: Old and remarkable trees of Scotland. Edinburgh, Blackwood and Sons.

Notes:

In 1867 there were ‘Twelve trees in one row in a healthy condition, supposed age 500 years; soil, very bare, about 1 foot deep’. More recently it is thought that the avenue was planted in the early 17th century.
2014 – Owen Johnson: The yew third from gate in line above drive; slightly fastigiate, with a girth of 410cm at 0.2. The yew 6th from gate end in line of old yews above drive is partly fastigiate, but less so than the first tree which was presumably the original ‘Neidpathensis’. Girth 255cm at 0.1.
