Norbury Park Farm

Tree ID: 4150

Yews recorded: Ancient 7m+

Tree girth: 737cm

Girth height: at 10cm

Tree sex: male

Date of visit: 3-Mar-13

Source of earliest mention: 2008: Owen Johnson

Notes:

This large urn shaped yew was surrounded by thick brambles and prevented measurement in 2013. The girth recorded is from Owen Johnson in 2008. On the north side of the yew there is much white wood which is being covered by new growth. On the west side is a large basal cavity while on the east is a significant loss of the outer shell. It is completely hollow, with evidence of fire damage on the now dead leaders. New growth is occurring and at the time of my visit the tree was covered in male flowers making this a fine example of regeneration from what must have been a dramatic episode in this yew’s life. The Ancient Tree Hunt reference is 6558.
