Peter Norton 2015: The avenue is approximately 945m in length with 12m spacing in width and 12m spacing between trees. This adds up to 76 on each side, of which some are young replacements. Systematic recording of girths was not possible on this occasion, but six were noted at 12′ 8″ (386cm), 12′ 11″ (394cm), 13′ 6″ (411cm), 13′ 7″ (414cm), 14′ 6″ (442cm – shown here) and 15′ 3″ 465cm). Many are multi-stemmed, with most having two leaders from an early age, so girths of these larger trees may be misleading. The area between the yews has been cleared a few years ago and much lower limb removal was carried out at the same time.
