Oakclose Plantation

Tree ID: 5110

Yews recorded: Notable

Tree girth: 399cm

Girth height: at narrowest

Tree sex: male

Date of visit: 14-May-17

Source of earliest mention: 2017: Hugo Egleston

Notes:

This is a rather battered, hollow yew with many lopped branches. A girth of 13′ 1” (399cm) was recorded at its narrowest point about 1′ above the ground. An internal stem can be seen in the yew’s hollow.
With a girth of under 4m the tree is presently classified as notable. Because it displays veteran characteristics it will in the future be classified as V-con (veteran on account of its condition).
Nearby was a magnificent horse chestnut, with a girth of 17′ 4” (528cm) and possibly the same age as the yew. A carpet of ground elder suggested earlier habitation at this remote spot.
