January 2005 – Tim Hills: Three yews were noted by Swanton in 1958. In the 1st photo is the tree opposite the north door. Pollarding has caused it to rot in the centre and it is starting to lean outwards. The 2nd photo shows the tree he described as having ‘3 coalescing branches’. Swanton’s third yew grew in the SW corner and had a girth of 15′ 4” (467cm). The only tree growing SW had a girth of only 9′, with no sign of it once having been larger.
