Notes:September 1997 – Tim Hills: I have visited this site on many occasions and am still to be convinced that these are remnants of an ancient tree, given an age of 1000 years in Chetan and Brueton’s The Sacred Yew. As time has gone on what is left has become hidden by ivy. There appear to be three possible fragments, two living and one dead. It is only on the dead fragment that there are some pieces of old sapwood indicative of possible great age. Its position inside a circular stone wall certainly suggests it was constructed to contain a larger tree than we see today.
