March 2017 – Tim Hills: The Celtic Christian Sites of the central and southern Marches by Sarah and John Zaluckyj describes ‘an old yew in the north west corner which is showing the beginnings of hollowing and thus appears to be of some age’. The ancient yew leans and was difficult to measure. The lowest girth of 17′ 9” (541cm) was obtained at the ground on one side and above the most bulging roots on the other. A girth of 18′ 7” (566cm) was obtained using a nail that somebody has hammered in at a height of about 8”. The tree is hollow on the west side.
