Notes:The 1790/91 Topographer (vol 4) describes the churchyard on p355 as follows: ‘On the south side is a strong old building open and decaying, near this is a large old yew tree, much in the same state.’
A Georgian engraving from the 1835 History, Antiquities and Topography of the County of Sussex by T.A.Horsefield F.S.A, shows a representation of the yew, its top damaged and with little foliage.
According to Allen Meredith (1988) the tree no longer grows here.
