Notes:

June 1983 – Allen Meredith: Girth of 24′ 0” at 3′ recorded. Described as ‘quite a solid looking tree, although there is some decay inside if closely examined. The tree is free from ivy, and has probably added two or three feet in girth since 1790.’
1988 – Jean Winn letter to Conservation Foundation: 24′ 1” (734cm) at 3′ and 25′ 0” (762cm) at 4′.
March 1999 – Tim Hills: East of the church. Hollow, with internal growth. A large central branch appears to have been truncated at a height of about 15′. There were signs of fire/smoke damage. The following girths were recorded: 23′ 4″ (711cm) at the ground; 22′ 10″ (696cm) at 1′; 24′ 2″ (737cm) at 3′.
2005 – Visited by John Hodges – tree continues to flourish.
