Notes:

October 2011 – Tim Hills: A tree is seen close to the north porch in the photo of an 1807 watercolour. In Saunders 1872 drawing the trunk appears to be hollow. While this is not conclusive proof that the tree was a yew, a record in the Journal of the Church Monuments Society, Volume 1, Part 2 (1986) describes ‘One stone discovered pushed into the base of a hollow tree at Ruckinge, Kent’. All traces of the hollow yew are gone.
