In 1990 Muriel Hawtin responded to an article about yew trees written by Greg Neale. She wrote ‘there was until recently, a fine old yew tree here in Shalford just outside the churchyard, and beside the old stocks, which are still there. It was blown down in a storm a few years ago’.
