Notes:When Leland visited Strata Florida in the reign of Henry VIII he described : ‘thirty-nine vast Ewgh trees in the churchyard belonging to Strathfleur Abbey’. By 1874, only 3 of the 39 remained, the largest of those in 2 parts, with a passage through its centre. This yew, seen here, appears in the 1874 Gardeners’ Chronicle, where the location coninues to be called Strathfleur Abbey, North Wales. More correctly it should be called Strata Florida, mid Wales.
