Tree ID: 756
Yews recorded: Ancient 5m-7m
Tree girth: 671cm
Girth height: at base of tree
Tree sex: female
Date of visit: 10-Jun-99
Source of earliest mention: 1890: The Ancient Yew - Robert Bevan-Jones
Notes:June 1999 – Tim Hills: Presumably a substantial mound of soil built up around the yew and the wall was built to retain it. A stone marked David ap Gwiliam suggests that he was buried by this yew. Robert Bevan-Jones argues that he was more likely to have been buried by the smaller yew fragment, found 65 metres to the NE.
September 2005 – Russell Cleaver: Tree has been pruned quite severely since photograph was taken. A churchwarden said the yew was struck by lightning 2 or 3 years ago and had to be cut back. Since then there has been much bushy regrowth. Girth recorded at the ground 6.94m (22′ 9”).
