Source of earliest mention: 1850: Ecclesiastical Topography

Notes:

May 2011 – Tim Hills: This ‘fine yew’ was documented in 1850. Charles Kingsley (1819 to 1875) is reported to have been of the opinion that the yew was more ancient than the church (Rev H.T.Seymour to Vaughan Cornish-c1945). My impression was of a far younger tree, with much bulging between 2′ and 6′ and many branches giving the tree a wide spreading canopy. Girth was 13′ 8” (417cm) at 1′.
2011 – Peter Norton – girth of 13′ 5” (409cm) close to the ground.
