Tickenham

Tree ID: 4212

Yews recorded: Ancient 5m-7m

Tree girth: 579cm

Girth height: at 5cm

Tree sex: female

Date of visit: 28-Aug-13

Source of earliest mention: 2013: Sue Smith

Notes:

August 2013 – Tim Hills: Closest to the church of the two yews. Girth of 19′ 0” (579cm) close to the ground excludes the thick branch emerging from the base of the tree, seen on the left in the first two photos. Large branches have been removed both from the side facing the church and that facing the nearby wall. There is a thick central stem and much branching. Most of the bole was ivy covered, and the 4th photo shows how quickly this can hide a fine tree. Beneath it I found part of the old sapwood shell and some holes showing that there are large hollow spaces within what appears at first sight to be a solid tree.
