Winfrith Newburgh

The following description appears in The Nation. ‘A yew at Winfrith, of such extravagantly aged aspect that it must surely have profited in its youth by the rain that followed Hastings, as it might in its gnarled and twisted and contorted but sturdy old age by that which preceded Waterloo’. There is no sign of the old yew, only a young yew growing SE of the church.
