Notes: Birtsmorton Court is a medieval moated manor house, much of which was built in the 15th century. Some of the original foundations laid in 1241 form part of the Court today. Its extensive formal gardens are open to the public on one day each year as part of the National Gardens Scheme. The yew grows NW of the moat. It is sometimes called the Wolsey tree, for it is said that when he was chaplain at Birtsmorton church he would sit or sleep beneath the yew.
