Notes: The yew grows in the garden of a house built in the early 1700s. An article in the Guardian stated that a yew aged 750/1000 years grew in this garden. This is an exaggeration, for in Arboretum and Fruticetum part III of 1838 we are told that the tree was '10 years planted, it is 14ft. high, the circumference of the trunk 1ft. 10in., and the diameter of the head 13ft'.
