Notes: 1781 - Gentleman's Magazine v51: "But the finest yews I ever saw are at Gawsworth in Cheshire. In the churchyard there are three, the largest of which, against the south door, has a seat of stone round it eight or nine inches broad, the circumference of which is fifteen yards. They are all tall trees, cut in a regular conic form, trimmed out of the reach of the highest house." In 2003 I noted three old yews, with nothing significant on the south side.
