Notes: The yew grows at the foot of Applecake Hill, within 100 yards of a ruined homestead once known as Aqua Vita and close to the Trapnell Brook, which marks the boundary with Shropshire. The well that provided 'the purest water for miles around' can still be seen. The yew was no doubt planted to mark this once important location. On a 19th century map showing the names all of the fields this plot is known as Yew Tree Piece. The tree serves as a shelter for sheep that graze the land.
