Notes: The yew grows on a mound on the east side of the church. The site is thought to be early medieval in origin. In the 1862 Cambrian Journal, p305 is the following description: 'In the churchyard stand two yew-trees, reputed to be older than the celebrated ones at Mallwyd. They give to the inclosure an air of real antiquity, somewhat inconsistent with the modern little church, but quite in harmony with the surrounding scene.' A year later the Cambrian Journal 1863 p38 ser 2 vol6 has the following: "At length I reached the village of Llanymowddwy. I did not accompany the funeral to the church, but preferred musing in the church-yard. I found poor Ioan's grave was under the shade of a venerable yew; tree, which, judging from its girth and proverbially slow growth, must have been at least three hundred years old."
