Notes: The earthworks consist of a motte and bailey surrounded by a continuous deep ditch. In 2007 this was filled with vegetation and it seemed that inaccessibility was perhaps helping to preserve the site. Paul Wood's 2016 plan indicates the location of the yews recorded here: (1) those marked in yellow on the steep slopes above the ditch (2) a yew marked with a red cross just inside the castle grounds and adjacent to the churchyard (3) an example of one of the many younger yews marked with a red circle.
