Tree ID: 258
Yews recorded: Ancient 5m-7m
Tree girth: 658cm
Girth height: at the ground
Tree sex: male
Date of visit: 31-Oct-97
Source of earliest mention: 1939: The King's England - Arthur Mee
Notes:October 1997 – Tim Hills: Tree 4. Hollow facing the path. A bole of 5′ with many branches. Girth of 21′ 7″ (658cm) at the ground recorded.
2016 Paul Wood: A fine looking old yew. Its foliage had a yellow tinge but was plentiful with new growth throughout the tree. It was measured at 2” due to some roots that now protrude above ground level, and a girth of 21′ 11” (668cm) was recorded. It was my impression that the tree has been larger girthed in the past. Ivy had been largely cleared from the bole. The south and western parts of the tree are slowly becoming hollow as the original heartwood decays.
